This is something I read about on the Smogon forums a while back and I thought you guys might be interested. Apparently, if you use the PokeRadar to find the same type of Pokemon many times in a row, your chances of finding a shiny version of that Pokemon increase drastically. There're lots of people out there who've used this technique to pull in boatloads of shines (as in 4-15 from a single chain). I've only attempted this once and managed to get a chain of 40 Shinx fairly easily (40 is supposed to be the maximum length of a chain that effects your shiny chances), but because of my horrendous luck I couldn't manage to find a single shiny . Anyway, if any of you want to try this out, here's a guide I found on Smogon. By the way, Smogon's a great site to visit if you want to learn how to make an awesome team. If you find the rules laid out in that guide a bit hard to follow (like I did), I had no problem getting a chain of 40 by only following these rules: 1. Never enter "rustling" patches of grass (the ones that have white lines that come out when they shake) 2. Only enter patches that are 4 patches away from your character 3. Never enter patches that are on the edges of the entire grass patch (they don't have other patches on all 4 sides) 4. Never enter patches that have another shaking patch adjacent to them Hope you guys have more luck with this than I did.

chaining is mad hard. I've only gotten up to 20. It takes time, but supposedly it works, so when I'm bored i try.

remind me where i can find trapinch? cuz i want a shiny flygon Look on Serebii. All I know is that they're a pokeradar exclusive making them pretty rare. You should probably try a more common one first . Common ones are supposed to be easier to chain (that's why I tried Shinx). chaining is mad hard. I've only gotten up to 20. It takes time, but supposedly it works, so when I'm bored i try. Really? I didn't find the chaining part very hard at all. As long as you follow the rules it's pretty straightforward. It was the part afterwards where I actually had to find a shiny that got me....

yeah i read that there are 4 levels that pokemon will appear on. i.e. the 4 spaces you mentioned. always go for the outermost level. maybe im just looking in the wrong spots. I use a repel so I don't get screwed by other pokemon, and that helps. But I either run out or the rules fail me. I haven't tried in a while, there are a couple new pointers there for me.

sorry for the double post but i thought of a separate idea that may be of interest to you z. I'm not sure about the credibility of this idea, but I read somewhere that the grass patches change when you get your chain up and expect a shiny. I read that stars appear above the grass patch indicating that there is a shiny in it. I also remember that 40 was just a guesstimate, it may not have been exact every time.

Yeah, patches are supposed to sparkle like this when there's a shiny there, and it's supposedly really hard to miss. I don't recall ever seeing one .

then yes, just bad luck Maybe it's different for extremely common pokemon like shinx. I know my brother found a shing golbat in the wild without trying, as did joe, prolly cuz these are so common.

I have only caught one shiny in my life... I was Ev training my Toys r us mew that i got in 2006 on my fire red and i found a shiney caterpie... I have since raised it to a lv 100 buterfree and btw it has perfect IV's... to bad it was a caterpie though because even with full IV's Butterfree is still pretty much terrible.. but i love her.. hehe
i do have other shineys that i trade for using serebii's wifi chat though

Really? Shiny and perfect IVs? That's insane. The chances of that are 32 x 32 x 32 x 32 x 32 x 32 x 8,192 so a one in 8,796,093,022,208 chance. You must be the luckiest guy on the planet xD.

well haha i dont know why i said perfect IV's... She was a modest natured caterpie with perfect Iv's IN speed Sp.def and SP. Atk and then High 20's in the others... plus back prior to the D/P age all shinies had nearly perfect Iv's... they changed that when D/P came around though

Ah, that makes more sense, and it's still really good. I got 2 shinies back in the gba generation (Kingdra and Mightyena) and both had horrible natures and IVs. I got a shiny Dragonite in Diamond though with a good nature and IVs all higher than 20. I was pretty happy with that.

I got a ton of shinies second gen, especially with the help of cloning. But I caught a shiny cleffa, ursarang, geodude, and... one more, i forget. And, of course, the gyrados.
And yeah, I don't have the patience for chaining. I'd really like a shiney eevee though.

Unlike you, I don't have to use legitimate means to obtain shinies. I can do things like...say...make every pokemon I encounter shiny. Or make them all have high IVs. Or just make pokemon however I want. Ya, I'm awesome like that.
